Using The Pure Wraps

  • How do you use The Pure Wraps® Coconuts Wraps?

The Pure Wraps wrap like a tortilla. They can be folded like a burrito or rolled like a sushi roll. You may even make an ice cream cone with The Pure Wraps since they hold cold very well. The choice is yours and limited only by your creativity.
  • Why are some of the coconut wraps slightly darker in color? What are the round holes or bubbles in the coconut wrap?

The Pure Wraps coconut wraps are a hand made artisan food using only young coconut meat, young coconut water, Himalayan salt & sometimes organic spices. Therefore there will be slight variations between each wrap including color variations due to slight differences in temperature, humidity, airflow, maturity of young coconut, and enzymatic activity. There will likely be round holes and bubbles due to the trapping of air during dehydration (not to be confused with mold which has dark colors). Furthermore, The Pure Wraps naturally become darker over time and we do not bleach them or use chemicals to artificially keep them light. Finally, you may find white film on the coconut wraps caused by the oil converting between solid and liquid at times given coconut oil can become liquid above 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • What is the shelf-life of The Pure Wraps coconut wraps?

We apply an old-world process of dehydration which was one of the earliest ways that people utilized to preserve food before refrigeration was available. Also, the Himalayan salt used in The Pure Wraps is a natural preservative. Additionally, coconut meat is inherently anti-microbial, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. We have had multiple independent laboratory tests done on The Pure Wraps and the results of these tests confirm that our product deserves a BEST-BY-DATE of 10 months for original and 9 months for curry. However, by the time they are received from the Philippines and available to you there is usually 3 to 6 months remaining to the BEST-BY-DATE marked on the package. You may refrigerate The Pure Wraps unfilled and covered (preferably in our packaging or in a glass container which is better for you and the environment and prevents further dehydration). This will slow down the natural aging process of real food. However, it is not necessary. Please do not freeze and remember to keep The Pure Wraps out of direct sunlight or high heat for an extended period of time.
  • Should The Pure Wraps coconut wraps be frozen?

No. We believe freezing degrades its nutrition and they can crack while frozen. Coconuts don't come from frozen environments so they don't have much experience being frozen in the wild!
  • How do you store The Pure Wraps coconut wraps?

They should be stored near room temperature and away from dry circulating air over long periods of time for optimal convenience. Avoid storing them in direct sunlight and do NOT freeze. (Freezing is definitely not recommended for many reasons including our belief that it deters from its nutritional value and they could crack). Once the package has been opened, the best way to keep The Pure Wraps fresh is to fold over the opened end and use a tight fitting "chip clip" to seal the bag until use. You may store them in the refrigerator, but make sure that they are unfilled and covered to avoid them becoming soggy or dry. We have found through testing that when The Pure Wraps are refrigerated with certain fillings (for more than two hours) they can undergo a texture change that many find unpleasant (the moisture from food is drawn into the wrap). PLEASE KNOW IT IS NOT NECESSARY AND LESS CONVENIENT TO STORE THEM IN THE REFRIGERATOR UNLESS YOUR ENVIRONMENT HAS DRY CIRCULATING AIR (HEATER DURING WINTER). Refrigeration will slow the enzymatic activity which increases with higher temperature and causes browning and a texture change over many months.
  • How can you use The Pure Wraps coconut wraps for school lunches, work and travel?

The Pure Wraps are great for school lunches, work and travel because they are very portable. If you are preparing school or work lunches, we recommend that you assemble them with your choice of filling just prior to consumption. They wrap like tortillas, but if they are filled too early with moisture containing ingredients (like mayonnaise, oil, mustard, etc.) they will absorb that moisture and can become soggy. Therefore, we recommend that you limit the amount of refrigeration for The Pure Wraps (filled) to two hours or less. The ideal way to use The Pure Wraps for school and work lunches as well as travel is to transport them separately from the filling and assemble ingredients just before serving.

Our Crafting Choices

  • How are The Pure Wraps coconut wraps packaged?

There are four (4) coconut wraps per package with a piece of unbleached and chlorine free parchment paper in the center of the package with two wraps on each side of this parchment paper. The coconut wraps will need to be separated before filling. Each coconut wrap should be slightly offset from one another to make it easier to separate each one. Since we believe so strongly that GMO's in food are not good for us or the planet, we carried that thru to our packaging. Our packaging is made from non-GMO cellulose for the good of people and the planet.
  • Why did you take the time to get Non-GMO project verified?

You should know if your food is GMO or not to make a choice on your own. This is why we not only tell you The Pure Wraps are non-GMO, we have a third party company verify, since we believe in trusting but verifying especially something so important as food. Please click here to see our verification with the Non-GMO Project.
  • Why are The Pure Wraps coconut wraps packaged in cellulose instead of plastic?

When Improveat started crafting The Pure Wraps, they needed the packaging to perform well to protect their raw coconut wraps, while also being kind to the environment. As The Pure Wraps is a raw food, it was critical to guard against mold by implementing a high moisture barrier. A high barrier to oxygen was also necessary to extend shelf life. Furthermore, the packaging needed to match Improveat’s brand identity and high standards for The Pure Wraps, which are Non-GMO Project verified. NatureFlex™ by Innovia Films proved to be the perfect solution. This flexible packaging material is derived from sustainable wood pulp, offers excellent barriers to oxygen and moisture, is non-GMO and is certified compostable. Our customers benefit with a product that is compostable, does not contain any bisphenol (including BPA and over a dozen other derivatives), and is free of phthalates which are known endocrine disruptors.

  • Why are the Pure Wraps coconut wraps Gluten Free, Corn Free, Soy Free, Dairy Free, Egg Free, and Nut Free?

The Pure Wraps coconut wraps do not contain any of the top eight major food allergens ingredients because it is our mission to offer food products that do not contain any of the major food allergens. It is not that we are against all of these foods, but we are against what has been done to them including genetic modification, use of chemicals, pasteurization, injecting of hormones and antibiotics and improper handling and feeding among other issues. We believe it is possible to source these foods properly but few are doing it in a trustworthy manner. It is no coincidence to us that the major food allergens come from “food” that is highly processed by large corporations taking shortcuts with our health.
  • What is meant by “Ancient Wisdom, Modern Convenience, Pure & Simple?”

First of all, we believe that food is medicine. Every food we eat has the power to contribute to our health and wellness or detract from it. The Pure Wraps coconut wraps have been developed with the commitment to apply ancient wisdom of drying foods rather than the post-industrial mindset that utilizes dangerous chemicals and preservatives to preserve food and make it shelf stable. We believe that food that has been laced with chemicals and preservatives is no longer food as God intended it to be and is unsafe for human consumption. Second, we appreciate the need in our busy lives for modern convenience and so we made The Pure Wraps in such a way that it is easy to store without refrigeration or freezing which makes it a great product to travel with or have stocked in your pantry for a quick, nourishing meal or snack.
  • Do you plan to use certified organic coconuts?

Yes. We believe in supporting small, locally owned farms that have wild coconuts and are not mono-crop farms. Fortunately, coconut palms are rarely if ever sprayed with man-made chemicals because they flourish best in good soil and salt. We are not yet certified organic, but are willing to take the steps necessary to get this certification. We could have sourced our coconuts from large mono-crop organic farms, but we are not comfortable with some of the loopholes that have become apparent in organic farming. We prefer to work with small farmers who see the value in organic farming and are willing to reach for an even higher standard which is Bio-Dynamic farming or Permaculture.
  • Why do you use brown parchment paper inside your packaging?

Since we began producing The Pure Wraps coconut wraps in the Philippines, we have found that parchment paper makes it easy to separate the wraps in the package. In warmer climates, the coconut oil (from the coconut meat) in The Pure Wraps liquefies making it more likely that the wraps will stick together in the package. Please remember that The Pure Wraps are never frozen and do not require refrigeration and we recommend storing them in a cool, dry place in your pantry. Using our parchment paper is safe since it is not bleached nor is chlorine used. Additionally, it is non-GMO and compostable. We chose to take this extra step to maintain the integrity of our product and keep The Pure Wraps as pure a food as possible. That is why you won't see our wraps on bleached wax paper which can contain petroleum based ingredients and harmful bleaching agents.
  • Why is Himalayan Salt used?

For many years people have been told that salt is bad and we should avoid it or limit its use. We believe it all depends on what salt you choose and the amount consumed. Most salt is highly processed, altered and contains chemicals. Himalayan salt includes 84 trace elements and minerals considered essential to the body. Understanding Food Terms

  • What is gluten?

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye and barley. It provides structure to bread while it bakes and elasticity that helps develop a chewy texture. Most, but not all commercial brand cereals contain gluten. Adults and children who have celiac disease cannot digest gluten and have nutrient absorption problems resulting from the damage done to the small intestine. Currently 1 out of every 133 people has celiac disease and some estimates suggest that the disease is only ten percent diagnosed. There is no cure for celiac disease. In order to restore health, a person with celiac must remove all gluten containing foods from their diet permanently. To learn more about gluten, please visit: www.celiac.org
  • What is meant by Alkaline?

Independent laboratory testing indicates that The Pure Wraps tests on the alkaline side of the pH scale (average pH range of 8.90) We believe this is good news and worth sharing because the typical western diet has become increasingly acidic in nature with the emphasis on fast foods and processed foods and a decrease in consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables. In general, fruits and vegetables are alkaline-forming once metabolized in the body while proteins, grains and sugars are acid-forming. Many health-care professionals believe that an excess of acid-producing foods in the diet is partly to blame for the increase in many chronic diseases. There is more research needed but it is clear that the body needs to be in a state of homeostasis, or balance in order to maintain health and prevent disease. The Pure Wraps is just another way that you can add another alkaline food to your diet. To learn more, please visit: thealkalinefoods.com
  • Why is Non-GMO important?

We believe one of the biggest threats this world faces is genetically modified organisms where man is playing God (and God probably isn't happy about it!). Independent tests show how detrimental GMO's are and can be to people and the planet, therefore, we believe in following the precautionary principle of waiting until they are proven safe instead of assuming they are safe. Please study this on your own and remember to "follow the money" to find out why there are polarizing views. We believe this issue is important that we had The Pure Wraps become Non-GMO Project Verified. Read our press release here.
  • What does raw mean?

Raw food has living beneficial enzymes for our bodies which we support, therefore, Improveat crafted The Pure Wraps coconut wraps so the internal temperature is low enough whereby enzymes are still alive. This allows you to consume living enzymes with The Pure Wraps. We believe it is best that you consume The Pure Wraps without heating them but if you want a warm wrap we suggest warming what you want inside the wrap instead of the coconut wrap itself. Living enzymes are so vital to your health. The Pure Wraps are tested to ensure that they are raw.
